Google Cloud Gives Organizations Two Options to Run Claude Models
The new option changes who is responsible for data processing more than it changes the model itself.

What happened?
Google Cloud made generally available an Anthropic-managed path to run Claude models, alongside the Google-managed path. Both share models, pricing, and billing, but differ in processing terms and speed of access to Claude platform features.
Why does it matter?
Deployment decisions have become governance and contract decisions, not just performance comparisons. Organizations must determine who processes the data and what controls they need before choosing a path.
My perspective
I think the real value here is decoupling model selection from operating-model selection; this gives risk teams clearer space to weigh feature speed against sovereignty and compliance requirements.
Scope and availability
The announcement concerns Google Cloud customers and Claude models available via the platform; features may differ between management methods.
Three executive questions
- Who will be the data processor in the chosen scenario?
- What contractual and regulatory controls must be maintained?
- Do teams need new Anthropic features immediately upon release?
