Same-Day ACH Payments Continue Growth in Q3

Nacha data shows usage expanding in volume and value as companies continue moving away from checks.

What happened?

Nacha announced Q3 results for the ACH network, showing growth in same-day and business-to-business payments. The data reflects the network's continued adoption as a primary channel for faster payments in the United States.

Why does it matter?

Continued growth means treasury teams need to re-evaluate liquidity timing and operational controls, as faster settlement reduces the time available to detect and recover errors.

My perspective

I believe speed must be managed as a risk factor: every minute shaved off settlement requires a corresponding increase in pre-verification, monitoring, and alerting.

Scope and availability

The figures refer to the U.S. ACH network and the quarter reported by Nacha; they do not represent all global instant payment methods.

Three executive questions

  1. Do verification controls precede the sending of a same-day payment?
  2. How do liquidity needs change with higher same-day payment volumes?
  3. What is the response plan when an erroneous payment is discovered after sending?
