OpenAI and NASK Partner to Advance AI Safety Research

The collaboration links public research expertise in Poland to broader work on system security and evaluation.

What happened?

OpenAI and Poland's NASK announced an agreement to collaborate on AI safety and security topics. The announcement places research and evaluation at the heart of the relationship rather than presenting it as a commercial product launch.

Why does it matter?

Partnerships with public institutions can expand the testing base and add local context to risk assessment, but their value will depend on verifiable outputs, not just the announcement.

My perspective

In my view, the most important indicator will be whether the collaboration produces tools or published research that helps others measure safety, rather than just a closed exchange of expertise.

Scope and availability

The announcement describes a research partnership; it does not in itself define an available product or guarantee specific security outcomes.

Three executive questions

  1. What research outputs will be made public?
  2. How will the effectiveness of joint evaluation work be measured?
  3. Who holds the decision to publish or withhold results?
